Jose Mourinho has rejected an invitation to meet Manchester United fans to discuss his concerns about their support but insists he will continue to behave in the best interests of the club.
Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) offered to meet Mourinho after he criticised some sections of the fanbase.
He has said he is “disappointed” with a perceived lack of support for striker Romelu Lukaku and has questioned the atmosphere at Old Trafford both this season and last, but the 54-year-old insists it is not imaginable to sit down with fans to talk through his pain.
He said: “I cannot meet… how many millions? I cannot meet a quarter of the planet, I think a quarter of the planet is Manchester United red, I cannot meet them.
“The only thing I can do is to do what I do since day one, which is to fight for the club, to give everything I have to give, to try to give everything I can get in terms of support to my players because we are fighting hard, we are working hard and that’s the only thing we can do and the only thing we can promise.”
MUST have been in discussions with United about ways to improve the atmosphere at home games.
