Kano State Police Commissioner, Mr Rabiu Yusuf, has promised Igbo residents in the state protection against last week’s eviction threat.
He made the promise after he met with the leadership of the Igbo community in his state to discuss a threatening eviction notice issued last week.
The threat was issued on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 by the Coalition of Northern Youths (CNY), advising Igbos living in the northern region of the country to leave before October 1, 2017.
The coalition of 16 different groups which includes Arewa Citizens Action for Change, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Arewa Youth Development Foundation, Arewa Students Forum and Northern Emancipation Network, promised to execute measures to carry out their declaration.
Yusuf has responded with a show of support for the Igbo community on Monday, releasing a statement through the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Magaji Majiya.
“The meeting is to assure you of the commitment of the command toward ensuring safety of your lives and properties as every other Nigerian living in the State,” he said.
Eze Igbo Kano, Dr Bonafice Ibekwe was in attendance at the meeting, and he urged for calm among Igbos living in the northern region of the country.
