The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) will have Malam Musa Aliyu as its new chairman, as the Senate has just approved his nomination for the position.
As a result of the vote taken on Thursday in the Committee of the Whole, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti) saw his proposal become law.
While Bamidele was presenting the motion, she pleaded with the Senate to take into consideration the request that President Bola Tinubu had made to affirm Aliyu’s appointment as the Chairman of the ICP.

He stated that the request was made in compliance with Section 3 (6) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Establishment Act, which was passed in the year 2000.
In addition to this, he encouraged the Senate to examine the request that Tinubu has made to ratify the appointments of Mr. Saka Suleiman and Prof. Gaji Dantata to the Federal Judicial Service Commission.
He stated that the request was in line with the terms of Section 154 (1) and (3) and paragraph 12 (f) of Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended. He also stated that the request was in conformity with the provisions of Part 1 of the Third Schedule.
The Senate temporarily disregarded its regulation in order to allow the nominees and other visitors to enter the chamber before they were subjected to the screening process.
The nominees were escorted into the room by Senator Abdullahi Gumel, who serves as the Senior Special Assistant to the President for Matters Relating to the National Assembly (Senate).
After that, the nominees each delivered a summary of their professional experiences and highlights of their career profiles.
According to Aliyu, who is currently serving as the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in Jigawa State, he launched comprehensive judicial reforms in September 2019, when he was serving as the Attorney General for the state.
Following this, the Senate voted to affirm the appointments of Professor Gaji Dantata and Mr. Saka Suleiman to the position of member of the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC), respectively representing the states of Kano and Kwara.
During his remarks, the Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who was in charge of presiding over the plenary, referred to their appointment as a “call to service.”
He asked them to offer their all to the service of the country while also asking them not to let the President or the people of Nigeria down in any way.
