The socio-political group, Ijaw Youth Brigade, has called on the Chief Judge of Edo State to remain neutral and impartial in handling the election tribunal proceedings, which commenced on Monday.
The appeal comes amid heightened tensions following the outcome of the September 21 election, with stakeholders urging the judiciary to maintain fairness in its deliberations.
In a statement, the group’s leader, Mr. Bimode Borowari, also called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the National Judicial Council (NJC) to closely monitor the tribunal proceedings to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the judiciary.

“The judiciary plays a critical role in safeguarding democratic principles, especially in election-related cases,” Borowari stated.
“The public’s confidence in the electoral process depends on a transparent and unbiased tribunal process.”
He emphasized that maintaining neutrality is vital to preserving the credibility of judicial decisions, which could have significant implications for the political future of Edo State.
Borowari also alleged that there were reports of attempts by certain individuals to influence the tribunal’s rulings in favor of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate.
“Reports reaching us indicate that the PDP and its candidate are relying on some persons in the judiciary to manipulate rulings in their favor,” he claimed.
“We call on the Chief Judge not to fall prey to such ploys, as Edo people are watching closely and will resist any form of manipulation or partiality.”
He further noted that the tribunal’s proceedings would be under intense public scrutiny, adding that stakeholders from all political parties must remain vigilant and committed to upholding democratic values.
“The outcome of this tribunal is crucial and could influence the political trajectory of Edo State,” Borowari concluded. “A fair and neutral judiciary is more essential now than ever.”
The group’s statement highlights the delicate balance between judicial impartiality and political interests, underscoring the need for fairness to ensure public trust in the electoral process.
