The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has come out to say that he plans to engage Speakers of State Houses of Assemblies on domestications of laws against rape.
Femi Gbajabiamila revealed this while he received a delegation of 12 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), in his office on Friday in Abuja.
According to him, he plans to meet up with state assembly speakers to interact with them on the pressing need to domesticate the Child Right Act and the Violence Against Persons Act.
He added that he is aware that too many Nigerian states are yet to take vital steps to prevent rape in the country and he is very willing to correct that.
His words, “I am aware that over 20 states are yet to domesticate the Child Right Act and the Violence Against Persons Act.
“Next week, I will have a zoom meeting with all the speakers and I hope that at the end, these Acts will be domesticated across the 36 states.”
”In some countries, just complementing a woman can be sexual harassment depending on how she feels but here you can even stroke her hair.”
