Obiakpu Egbema in Ohaji/Egbema local council area of Imo State has been completely deserted by inhabitants following a reportedly deadly clash between two rival cult groups, Degbam and Dewell.
According to a report by Vanguard, apart from the four people reportedly killed, including one Chief Emmanuel Opara, property worth millions of Naira have been destroyed during the clash.
The recent cult war was traced by one of the escapees of Obiakpu, Nkechi, to the invasion of Nwari village in broad daylight by some daredevil cultists dressed in army uniform on June 7, 2014.
According to her, this was followed by an early morning attack on June 13, 2014, by a faction of the cult group, which stormed Obiakpu with sophisticated weapons, shooting, killing and maiming innocent people.
Attempts to get the reaction of the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Enwerem, were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report
