Independence Celebration – Sober Reflection over Osun Guber Rerun – Activist

A renown human rights activist, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman has declared that the 58 years Nigeria Independence anniversary called for called sober reflection over the ugly conduct of the last Thursday governorship rerun election in Osun State, insisting that the Nigeria democracy vis a vis 2019 general elections were under threat.

He also condemned the attitude of the security agents during the rerun election which short of professionalism that made the political thugs of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to have field day without checkmating, alleging that APC political thugs were watching by security agents to maim,harass and even killed the members of the opposition political parties in the State.

While taking the critical appraisal of Nigeria as an Independent country at 58, through a signed statement which copies were made available to newsmen on Monday, Sulaiman adjudged the recent Osun rerun guber election as what fall short of free,fair and credible election in Nigeria political space,adding that Buhari led Federal Government had proved beyond reasonable doubt that his government could not oversee free,fair,credible and acceptable general election in 2019.

Speaking further, he recalled the recently conducted governorship rerun election in Osun state portends danger for nation’s democracy, describing the rerun election as charade and sham which should not be allowed to stand by all lovers of democracy.

According to him, “The conduct of the security agents during the rerun guber poll was shameful.As a rights activist and indigene of Osun State,we would not keep quiet in the face of maiming, killing and harassing of our people when they wanted to perform their civic responsibility of choosing a leader of their choice as being stipulated by the electoral laws and guidelines.This subversion of the electoral will of the masses in the state should be reversed with immediate effect.The 2018 Osun guber rerun election should be totally condemned by all lovers of democracy across the country and we would not allow the day light electoral robbery to stand so as to avoid being laid bad precedent in our political life.

Comrade Sulaiman who is the Executive Chairman,Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), congratulated the masses of the country over the country attainment of 58 years of independence,thanking God for sparing their lives to witness this year celebration,praying that they would witness more of this celebration in their life times.

The rights activist disclosed that Nigeria as a democratic nation still Crawling in its entirety, calling on the genuine lovers of the country, to continue praying for her unity and progress,adding that the bane of leadership still affecting the development of the land. .

Sulaiman therefore called on the masses to rise up in defending of the nation’s hard earned democracy as the country is moving closer to the 2019 general elections.
