The Oyo State Police Command has urged parents and guardians to prevent their children from being used to instigate unrest during the state’s 64th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
The warning was issued in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso.
The statement highlighted the comprehensive security measures that have been put in place to ensure a peaceful celebration, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Sonubi Ayodele.
It also cautioned against any attempts to disrupt the peace in the state.
“As residents of Oyo State join the rest of the nation in celebrating her 64th Independence Anniversary, the Oyo State Police Command, under the constructive leadership of CP Sonubi Ayodele, in concert with other relevant sister services, has emplaced comprehensive security strategies towards a successful anniversary outing,” the statement read.
The Command emphasised the importance of parental responsibility in maintaining peace during the celebrations.
It warned parents, guardians, and community leaders to advise their children and followers against participating in activities that could disturb the peace.
The statement added that those found culpable of causing trouble would face severe consequences.
“In furtherance of the numerous strategic stakeholders’ meetings held with parents, guardians, and leaders of different spheres of influence, the Command advises residents to caution their children, wards, and followers against being used as cannon fodders to disrupt the relative tranquillity in the state before, during, and after the anniversary celebrations, as those found culpable would face heavy sanctions,” the statement continued.
To reinforce security during the festivities, area commanders have been directed to personally lead convoy patrols within their respective jurisdictions, enhancing supervision of field operatives across the state.
The Command concluded by reiterating its commitment to maintaining public order and safety.
“Lastly, the Oyo State Police Command wishes to assert its resolve to work with all patriotic residents of the state while maintaining public order and safety for all,” the statement concluded.
As the state gears up for the Independence Day celebrations, the police are focused on ensuring peace and security during the event.
