The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have assured NYSC members, who would be participating in the 2015 general elections of their safety during and after the elections.

Speaking with newsmen, the Director General of the NYSC scheme, Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi, said provision has been made to ensure the protection of lives of NYSC members before, during and after the electoral activities.

According to him, the NYSC has entered into agreement with some Nigeria security agencies to see that the lives of all the corps members are protected and also to ensure that their welfare and logistics were adequately taken care of during the election.

In the same vein, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State, Okey Ezeanyi, while visiting the NYSC secretariat in the state, assured corps members that they would be secure.

“It is the duty of INEC to provide adequate security for corps members, who will be used as ad hoc staff for the 2015 elections,” he said.

He advised corps members to be of good conduct during the 2015 elections activities and promised prompt payment for their services.
