The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its preparedness for the 2027 general election, despite delays surrounding the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly.
INEC disclosed that it has already concluded work on the election timetable and schedule of activities, noting that it is now awaiting legislative action on the proposed amendments to the Electoral Act.
The Commission’s Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made this known on Wednesday in Abuja during an engagement with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).

Amupitan explained that while INEC has submitted its recommendations to the National Assembly, the timing of the amendment and eventual signing of the Electoral Act could affect certain aspects of the election timetable.
According to him, some activities outlined in the schedule may require adjustments depending on when lawmakers conclude work on the amended law.
He, however, stressed that the Commission remains fully committed to conducting a credible and transparent election in 2027.
Amupitan added that until the amended Electoral Act is passed and signed into law, INEC will continue to operate strictly within the provisions of the existing legal framework.
Details later.
