The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced its readiness to begin the issuance of Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, and commence the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
Speaking at the inauguration of a 15-member inter-agency advisory committee on voter education and publicity yesterday, the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Godwin Kwanga, said as the 2015 general elections drew near, there was absolute need and urgency to increase voter education in the FCT to mitigate ignorance about the electoral process among residents.
The committee is saddled with the mandate to collate and coordinate all activities relating to voter education in a manner that will be most effective at the grass roots.
Mr. Kwanga added that the committee would also identify various groups and channels through which voter education could be achieved.
Other terms of reference of the committee are: to ensure inter-agency cooperation in voter education in the FCT; to standardise and streamline voter education messages and materials; to ensure the participation of marginalised groups and to pool resources together so as to optimise the effectiveness of voter education campaign.
