The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned residents of Bauchi State against engaging in underage registration, multiple voter registration, or collecting Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) by proxy.
The Commission also warned against obstructing its officials while on duty, stressing that such offences carry severe penalties under the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended).
The warning was issued on Friday by the Bauchi State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Umar Ibrahim, during a press briefing on the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

“The Commission will not tolerate multiple registration, underage registration, or proxy collection of PVCs.
These are serious electoral offences, and anyone found guilty will face the full weight of the law,” Ibrahim stated.
He explained that the CVR exercise forms part of the build-up to the 2027 general elections, adding that the initiative was designed to ensure that only eligible voters are included in the national register.
According to him, the Preliminary Register of Voters would be displayed every three months to allow for corrections, objections, and claims by members of the public.
The REC further urged residents to take advantage of the exercise to register, update their personal information, transfer their registration, or request replacements for missing or damaged PVCs.
“I call on all eligible Nigerians in Bauchi State to make use of this opportunity to register, update your details, and collect your PVCs,” he appealed.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting credible elections and warned that it would not hesitate to prosecute anyone found violating electoral guidelines.
