CAMPBELL, CA–(Marketwired – April 28, 2015) – Technology market research firm Infonetics Research, now part of IHS Inc. ( NYSE : IHS ), today reported that worldwide mobile security client revenue hit $1.97 billion in 2014, a 46 percent increase from 2013 as consumers and enterprises looked to secure their devices and networks.
Infonetics’ 2015 Mobile Device Security Client Software market size and forecasts report tracks enterprise and consumer security client software for mobile devices.
“For now, the vast majority of hackers continue to focus their energy on the hundreds of millions of desktop computers around the globe, but the world is going mobile, and the hackers will too,” said Jeff Wilson, research director for cybersecurity technology at Infonetics Research, now part of IHS.
“We expect over 9.8 billion smartphones and tablets to ship between 2015 and 2019, many of which will serve as the primary device for many users. This massively expanding installed base of mobile devices is what’s driving development of mobile-specific malware and growth in the mobile security client space,” Wilson said.
MOBILE SECURITY CLIENT MARKET HIGHLIGHTS
Globally, sales of mobile security clients were up 10 percent sequentially in the fourth quarter of 2014, hitting $566 million.
For the full-year 2014, Asia Pacific led in mobile device security client revenue with 35 percent of the global total, followed closely by North America with 33 percent and EMEA with 29 percent, while Latin America was a distant fourth with 3 percent.
The global mobile device security client software market is forecast by Infonetics/IHS to grow at a fast clip to $3.8 billion by 2019.
