Maria Sharapova has pulled out of the 2015 US Open because of a leg injury.
Sharapova, who was due to start her campaign against 36th-ranked Australian Daria Gavrilova on Monday evening, has been replaced by countrywoman Daria Kasatkina.
“Unfortunately I will not be able to compete in this years US Open,” the 28-year-old, who was slated to be 3rd seed at Flushing Meadows, wrote on her Facebook page. “I have done everything possible to be ready but it was just not enough time. To all my
amazing fans, I will be back in the Asian swing in a few weeks and look forward to finishing the year healthy and strong.”

It is the third time the five-time major winner will be withdrawing from the fourth Grand Slam of the year, after a shoulder injury forced her to prematurely end her season in 2013 less than a week before the start of the championship.
“New York City, this wasn’t my year but I will be back!” Sharapova, who reached the 4th round at Roland Garros and the semi-finals at the All-England Club this year, added.
