The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has said that the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle insecurity should go beyond the replacement of service chiefs, stressing that Nigerians are more interested in tangible results.
The President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, made this known on Friday during an interview on Arise Television, monitored by newsmen.

InfoStride News reports that the NLC has declared a nationwide protest scheduled for December 17 over the worsening insecurity across the country.
According to Ajaero, frequent changes in security leadership have not translated into improved safety for citizens.
“The Federal Government changing service chiefs and rejigging the security apparatus doesn’t mean we are seeing results. We need solutions,” he said.
He noted that despite the removal of ministers and security chiefs, incidents of kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes persist across the country.
“I think we should be real in discussing issues like this. That a minister has been removed or that the Chief of Army Staff has been removed does not mean that we no longer have incidents of kidnapping, banditry and all manner of things. We want to see results,” Ajaero added.
Speaking on the options and recommendations being proposed by the NLC, the labour leader said the congress had made several submissions to the Federal Government without receiving any response.
“The NLC has stopped putting options on the pages of newspapers. We wrote to Mr President since June, providing options on taxation, strikes in tertiary institutions, strikes in the education sector and other areas,” he said.
He lamented that the letters had not been acknowledged, raising concerns about the government’s willingness to engage with organised labour.
“Up till now, there has been no acknowledgement of the letters. So where are we going to put our demands if they are not being addressed?” Ajaero asked.
