After the recent setback occasioned by activities of youths of Ibusa community, the installation of the Delta State Government’s integrated waste management facilities are to commence immediately just as the State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Frank Omare said over 2000 Deltans would be employed once the facilities becomes operational.
He explained that at completion, the temporal dumpsite along the Benin/Asaba expressway will be closed. Omare ,who added that all is set for the installation of the Warri integrated waste management facilities, blamed the delay in the commencement of Ibusa facilities on the inability of the State Government to prepare the site on time for the installation due to land issues which he said has been addressed.
With the installation of the Port Harcourt-based locally manufactured multi-purpose waste re-cycling facilities, the waste management in Asaba and environs would be effectively handled, while the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, he said would stop and a better way of handling refuse introduced.
The stoppage of the monthly sanitation exercise in Asaba, he said would give birth to public work programme which will create opportunity for the employment of over 1608 Deltans to take care of the daily clearing of the environment. Any household with filth in its surroundings will be arrested and arraigned in court for defaulting sanitation laws.
The 1000 tonnes capacity integrated waste management facilities which operates without polluting the environment, at Ibusa would take care of the re-cycling refuse in Asaba, Ogwashi-Uku and other neighboring communities and generate work for many as well as create business opportunities for the marketing of both the waste materials and re-cycled products.
The commencement of the Warri waste 1,500 capacity re-cycling plant, according to him, was part of the State Government proactive and holistic approach for filth management to create healthy environment across the State for Deltans in line with its three point agenda.
At the completion of the installation of the two plants, he said, Deltans will be trained to man the equipment and engage for efficient and effective management of the sanitation for the realization of the State Government’s goal.
