Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State, has cautioned members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against the lingering crisis within the party, stressing that he has no hands in the internal rancour.

Kwankwaso warned that the present crisis would weaken the PDP and possibly tear the party apart.

Speaking with BBC Hausa on Friday, Kwankwaso said he is particular about the party returning to power in 2023.

He lamented that the crisis rocking PDP was inflamed by those “after leadership” of the party.

According to Kwankwaso: “Now the strength of the party has reduced and in the end what will happen is that it will tear us apart.

“You see the result will not help us since we do not have a president and we do not have many governors.

“People like me have nothing to do with the crisis. I’m after what will bring development to people; every good leader should focus on that.

“The party chairman has only one month left. I think it’s better to wait so that we can emerge stronger.

“But the crisis is heightened by those who are after leadership. They are not doing it for the betterment of their people.”

There has been contention over the stool of the National Chairman of the PDP, currently occupied by Uche Secondus.

Recall that a Rivers State High Court had ordered Secondus to vacate the office of the PDP National Chairman.

But, Justice Nusirat. I. Umar, a vacation Judge of the Kebbi State High Court, had reinstated Secondus back to his office.

However, a High Court in Cross River State had ordered an ex parte motion stopping Secondus from parading himself as PDP’s National Chairman again.

Justice Edem Kooffreh, a vacation judge in Cross Rivers State upheld the order by Rivers High Court.

The Judge gave the order on Friday, while ruling on a motion ex parte marked HC/240/2021 which was filed by Enang Wani.

The new order also banned Secondus from resuming or visiting the party’s office as chairman.
