The recent crisis that engulfed the election of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Enugu State has been successfully resolved, marking a new chapter for the organization.
The turmoil arose during the election of new executive members at the Enugu State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), nearly escalating into a violent confrontation.
However, the situation was brought under control by a collaborative effort of security agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services (DSS).
On Tuesday, at the IPAC secretariat in Enugu, the conflicting factions reconciled, culminating in the peaceful handover of office to the new chairman, Mr. Obioma Nnamani, who also serves as the Chairman of the BOOT Party in the state. The outgoing chairman, Edwin Alor, graciously handed over the reins to Nnamani.
In his inaugural address, Nnamani pledged to uphold transparency and accountability within IPAC, while also fostering strong partnerships with INEC, ENSIEC, and the state government for the benefit of the people of Enugu State.
He emphasized the need for unity among IPAC members to propel the organization to greater heights, acknowledging the collective strength that comes from unity.
Frank Anioma, the Special Adviser to Governor Peter Mbah on Political Matters, urged IPAC to maintain its role as a watchdog, ensuring government accountability at all times. He encouraged the council to collaborate with the state government while advocating for good governance.
In his closing remarks, Alor expressed gratitude to his executive team and the council for their support and understanding during his tenure.
He urged forgiveness for any shortcomings and expressed optimism for a more robust IPAC in Enugu State’s future.
