Ivan Toney’s England career may be over following his move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, Alan Smith has said. The ex-Arsenal forward recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, even if the financial appeal of the move will be massive for a player like Toney, there will be a part of him that will be sad with how the transfer window panned out for him.
Smith added that Ivan has definitely signed his career away in many respects, at his prime.
His words, “I would have thought that Ivan Toney’s England career is over now he’s moved to Saudi Arabia. It’s a difficult one. Obviously, the financial appeal of the move is massive. From that respect, it’s a brilliant move for him. As he was sat on the private jet bound for Saudi, I do think there will be a part of him that’s a little bit sad by how it has all panned out for him this summer. He’s signed his career away in many respects in his prime. It’s not like he’s 22 and can think ‘I’ll play a couple of years in Saudi and come back’. It does feel a little sad. You can never say never to these types of scenarios, and if he scores 40 goals this coming season, looks sharp, he might still be in the manager’s thoughts.”
WOW.
