The crisis within the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a legal turn, as a splinter group has filed a lawsuit seeking to nullify the results of the party’s recent local government and state congresses.
The faction, operating under the name Committee for Ensuring Justice and Privileges, is led by Alhaji Abba Anas Adamu. The group accuses the party of conducting the congresses in violation of internal party rules and democratic standards.
Speaking to journalists shortly after court proceedings on Tuesday at the High Court in Dutse, Adamu expressed strong dissatisfaction with the conduct of the congresses, describing the entire process as lacking transparency and failing to follow constitutional procedures.

“The leadership of the party is being controlled by a single individual who denies other members their rights and privileges,” Adamu alleged, adding that the congresses sidelined many committed party members and were riddled with irregularities.
He claimed that several local government congresses were held in private residences rather than designated public venues. He also described the state congress as a sham, alleging it was reduced to a selection exercise driven by appointments rather than democratic elections.
The group has urged the court to overturn the outcomes of the congresses, citing gross procedural flaws. The matter has been adjourned to May 28, 2025, for further hearing.
Adamu warned that if the perceived injustices are not addressed, the internal crisis could escalate and potentially jeopardize the unity and stability of the PDP in Jigawa State.
