Joining Liverpool Over MUFC Was The Best Decision For Me – Gakpo

Liverpool forward, Cody Gakpo has come out to share how close he came to joining Manchester United before signing for Liverpool in January 2023. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.

According to him, he was definitely in contact with Manchester United the summer before he arrived at Liverpool, and he spoke to Erik ten Hag frequently as well.

Gakpo, however, added that that the transfer did not go through in the end and joining LFC was the best decision for him.

His words, “I think it was the summer before that I was in contact with the club [Manchester United] and spoke to the manager as well, obviously he’s Dutch. But, at the end it didn’t go through and that’s just it. And in the winter Liverpool came. [It was the] Best decision for me.

Left with an empty ground, Houlding founded Liverpool in 1892 and the club has played at Anfield ever since. The capacity of the stadium at the time was 20,000, although only 100 spectators attended Liverpool’s first match at Anfield.
