Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says captain Jordan Henderson will miss the club’s next game against Manchester City and is unavailable for England selection later this month due to injury.
Henderson, 26, has been forced to sit out Liverpool’s last three matches with a foot problem sustained in training.
The midfielder is sidelined for Liverpool’s trip to the Etihad Stadium to face City next Sunday and will not recover in time for England’s games with Germany and Lithuania on March 22 and 26 respectively.
Klopp was asked at a news conference whether Henderson would be available for an England call-up following Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Burnley, and he replied: “No chance.
“This two weeks — that’s what we hope — can bring him back but there’s no game possible in this time. That’s how it is.
“He cannot train and, for sure, not play against City. Then I think it makes sense that he is doing the rehab, and hopefully he can run in the week or in the second week of the international break. Then we have to see.”
Henderson has won 32 England caps in total since first appearing for the national team in 2010.
