Italy manager, Roberto Mancini has come out to defend Jorginho after the midfielder’s stoppage-time penalty miss against Switzerland. He recently revealed that the Chelsea midfielder taking the penalty was the right thing.
According to him, Jorginho is regarded as one of his nation’s best penalty takers, therefore if he ever feels like taking a spot-kick, he should.
Mancini added that failing to convert penalty kicks happen in football, so it is nothing to lose sleep over.
His words, “We missed a penalty in the first leg and one in the return, these things happen.”
“Jorginho felt like kicking it and it’s right that he did. He is one of the [best] penalty takers in the team.”
“In the first half we suffered and struggled. Then we came out well but missed the winning goal.”
Giovanni Di Lorenzo added, “Jorginho is a great champion and our penalty taker, we will help him get through this moment.”
