Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party in 2023, has said that President Bola Tinubu’s final defeat in the Northern District of Illinois court was due to the independence of the judiciary in the United States.
Justice Nancy Maldonado had ordered Chicago State University to hand over Tinubu’s academic records to Atiku, prompting this response from Atiku.
He criticized Babatunde Ogala, Tinubu’s attorney and the former National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, for dismissing the significance of the US court ruling.
In addition to likening the triumph to masturbating, Ogala had insisted that the ruling would have no impact on Atiku’s appeal of Tinubu’s victory before the Supreme Court.
Atiku, on the other hand, said that Nigerian judges had repeatedly sided with Tinubu on technicalities rather than the merits of the case, awarding him over 20 questionable victories as a result.
He claimed that Tinubu had avoided justice ever since the late great human rights attorney Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) exposed his alleged credentials scam in 1999.
Atiku expressed his disappointment in the Nigerian judiciary, which he saw as the final hope of the average citizen, in a statement sent through his Special Assistant on Public Communications, Phrank Shaibu.
He declared, “Justice Maldonado, who has spent less than one year on the bench and who sat on this case for barely a month, has been able to do what the Nigerian judiciary could not do for 23 years.” It’s clear now why Thomas Hobbes called life in the state of nature “short, brutish, and nasty,” and why Nigerian civilization is on the verge of returning there.
Usually we wouldn’t answer to a legal pipsqueak who has never won a major case and whose career advancement is dependent on the apron strings of a Chicago bagman, but in this situation we felt compelled to. For the sake of history, though, the truth must be revealed.
It’s a shame that Ogala puts more emphasis on procedure than fairness. According to Ogala, the triumph meant little. If the principal had nothing to conceal, then why did he want to prevent the release of his credentials? Why did he appeal the original ruling as well? According to the Bible, only the wicked flee when there is no one to pursue them. For nearly three decades, Tinubu has refused to let anyone see his school transcripts.
After failing to reach the cabinet, Atiku’s assistant claimed that Ogala’s outburst stemmed from his desperation to secure an appointment from Tinubu.
In his opinion, Ogala was trying to have himself appointed as attorney general. After repeatedly representing Tinubu in court, he came to see it as his due.
Despite being a senior lawyer, Tinubu chose the more seasoned Lateef Fagbemi because of the former’s more recent promotion to the position.
Since then, Ogala has bent over himself to satisfy his master Tinubu by, among other things, turning logic on its head. That’s really pitiful!
