Kaduna APC Faults Ban Of Okada

apcimages1.jpgThe All Progressives Congress, APC, on Thursday faulted the ban on the use of commercial motorcycles known as “achaba” by the Kaduna State Government in some parts of the state.

The state governor, Mukhtar Yero had on Wednesday signed the law banning the use of achaba in Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Zaria and Birnin Gwari local government areas respectively.

The law, which comes into effect from May 21, also bans the use of achaba in Chikun, Jema’a, and Igabi local government areas respectively.

But the interim state chairman of APC, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said the ban would not only add to the burden of residents but is capable of worsening the economic situation of Kaduna.

Baba-Ahmed said, “The APC in Kaduna State strongly condemn the signing into law, bill to outlaw the operations of commercial motorcycles in most parts of the state. In spite of the well-informed appeals and advice of people from all walks of life, the state Governor, Dr. Mukhtar Yero has chosen to take the unpopular steps. The action will pose additional problems on the lives of citizens and the economy of the state”.

The opposition party further described the law as anti-people, which would only compound the levels of unemployment threatening the security of the state.
