Mr. Felix Hassan Hyat, chairman of the PDP in Kaduna State, has urged other influential Nigerians to use their voices and acts to promote national unity and harmony.
At a one-day discussion on religion and politics held in Kaduna on Friday, he expressed disappointment that former governor Nasir El-Rufai would stoop to bringing up such a divisive issue between Christians and Muslims.
He said that Nigeria’s leaders and other interested parties should consider themselves as “bridge builders,” working to create conditions in which all Nigerians can live in harmony and go about their lawful pursuits without fear of reprisal.
As the author puts it, “we should pity ourselves in the country that, despite the abundance of blessings God has bestowed in the country, only few are enjoying it because of greed and selfishness.”
Regardless of their political or religious affiliations, he said, governor Uba Sani should fear God and do what is necessary for the people of the state.
Only by working together as a community can we hope to triumph over any threat to our safety or any other obstacle that stands in our way.
Kaduna State requires a leader with the courage to deal with its problems head-on, without showing favouritism, and advance the state as a whole.
If the appointments and resource distributions made by former governor El-Rufai are maintained, then we are in for it.
The author writes, “We seriously need a radical departure from what the state experienced in the last eight years of El-Rufai’s administration for the peaceful coexistence and development of the state.”
He said the leaders of the state government have a lot of time to make amends to the people and fix the problems of the past.
