Kaduna State government has taken decisive action, announcing the termination of employment for 3,234 staff members deemed ineligible for the Civil Service.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abudullahi Baffa Bichi, revealed this development in a press briefing on Friday.
Bichi explained that the decision to terminate employment was based on the government’s commitment to implementing the report of the committee on screening and verification of employment initiated by the immediate past administration.

The SSG further disclosed that Governor Nasir El-Rufai approved the reinstatement of 9,332 staff across 51 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) who were found eligible by the committee.
He highlighted the reinstatements were made following careful observations and consideration of the recommendations provided by the Technical Committee.
Bichi stated, “The verification committee report was received by the Government and its salient observations and recommendations were noted and accepted.”
The SSG outlined several irregularities in the employment process, including the majority of hires not being accounted for in the 2023 Approved Budget, suspicions of forged certificates, lack of proper screening and recruitment interviews, and the employment of non-indigenes without due consideration.
Bichi emphasized that the employment decisions did not align with the actual manpower needs of the MDAs and were influenced by financial considerations rather than strategic workforce planning.
He also highlighted instances where employees were wrongly placed in non-career posts or roles unrelated to their qualifications.
Explaining the screening process, Bichi revealed that the committee divided into three panels to handle the screening of the initially reported 10,800 staff, which later increased to 12,566 due to further scrutiny.
The Kaduna State government’s swift and comprehensive action underscores its commitment to maintaining a transparent and merit-based civil service.
