Kaizer Chiefs coast to league crown
23 April 2015 11:34
With three games remaining, Kaizer Chiefs have wrapped up the 2014/2015 South African Premier League title.
The ‘Amakhosi’ cruised to their first ever league crown since the 2012/2013 season thanks to a 4-1 thumping of mid-table placed Polokwane City last Wednesday (22 April 2015) in Johannesburg, whilst rivals Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 1-1 draw in Pretoria by visiting Platinum Stars.
The victory took Chiefs’ tally to 63 points, 15 more than Sundowns, 48 points, and whose four remaining games can guarantee only 12 points.
It is the fourth title of the ‘Amakhosi’ in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era and earns them a return to the CAF Champions League next year, after crashing out at the 1/16th round of the current edition.
Meanwhile, last season champions, Sundowns, Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates remain in the hunt for second place.
