The Kano State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially confirmed its participation in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 24.
This announcement was made by the state chairman of the party, Abdullahi Abbas, during a press briefing in Kano.
The APC is gearing up to mobilise its supporters and field strong candidates across all 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state, expressing confidence in securing a favourable outcome.
Abdullahi Abbas highlighted the party’s commitment to democratic processes, revealing that preparations were underway to conduct primary elections.
These primaries will serve as the platform for selecting the APC candidates who will represent the party in the local government elections.
Abbas expressed optimism, noting that the party’s strong organisational structure and deep roots in Kano’s political landscape would play a crucial role in its campaign efforts.
“We are making every effort to ensure our supporters are fully engaged in the electoral process,” Abbas stated.
He underscored the importance of mobilising the party’s base, reflecting a strategy aimed at harnessing the collective strength of APC loyalists throughout the state.
Kano State has long been recognised as a bastion of progressive politics, and the APC aims to uphold this legacy by energising its political machinery to achieve success in the polls.
The chairman further emphasised the significance of a level playing field in the upcoming elections.
He called on the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) to uphold the principles of transparency and impartiality in conducting the electoral process.
Abbas stressed that a credible election is fundamental to sustaining the democratic values that the APC and other political parties in the state hold dear.
“The integrity of the electoral process must not be compromised. We expect KANSIEC to ensure that every vote counts and that the process is free from manipulation,” Abbas remarked.
His appeal for fair play highlights the broader concerns of many stakeholders who are keen to see that the electoral process in Kano is conducted with the utmost respect for democratic norms.
The APC’s participation in the upcoming elections comes at a time when Kano State is witnessing significant political activity, with multiple parties vying for control of the local government councils.
The APC, however, remains a dominant force in the state’s political arena. Historically, Kano has been a stronghold of the party, and its leaders are keen to maintain this status by securing a decisive victory in the local government elections.
Abbas also reiterated the APC’s commitment to fostering an inclusive political environment, stating that the party is open to engaging with all citizens who wish to contribute to the state’s development.
“Our doors are open to everyone who believes in our vision for Kano. We are not just contesting an election; we are building a movement for progress,” he added.
This inclusive approach is seen as part of the APC’s strategy to broaden its appeal and galvanise a wider base of support across the diverse population of Kano.
In the lead-up to the elections, the APC has been actively organising rallies and community outreach programmes to strengthen its connection with the electorate.
Party leaders have been touring various LGAs, meeting with grassroots supporters, and outlining their plans for local governance.
This outreach is designed to not only secure votes but also to demonstrate the party’s commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of Kano residents.
Abbas concluded by reaffirming the APC’s dedication to upholding democratic values and ensuring that the October 24 elections are conducted in a manner that reflects the will of the people.
“We are committed to free, fair, and credible elections. This is not just about winning; it’s about setting a standard for good governance and democracy in Kano,” he said.
His remarks reflect a broader vision for the future of Kano, one where political engagement and fair competition serve as the bedrock of local governance.
As the election date approaches, all eyes will be on Kano to see how the APC and other political parties navigate the electoral landscape.
The emphasis on fair play, transparency, and the mobilisation of supporters underscores the dynamic and competitive nature of Kano’s political environment.
The APC’s preparations and strategic positioning highlight its resolve to not only participate but to lead with integrity in the forthcoming local government elections.
