The Katsina State Government has announced its preparedness to rehabilitate terrorists who willingly surrender and embrace peace, as part of efforts to consolidate ongoing progress in restoring security across the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Bala Zango, made this known while speaking to journalists in Minna, Niger State, during the quarterly meeting of Information Commissioners from All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled states.
The event, hosted by the Niger State Ministry of Information, had the theme: “Strategic Communication and Policy Alignment.”

Zango revealed that the security situation in Katsina has significantly improved, with terrorism reduced by 70 percent. He attributed the success to intensified government actions and collaborative security strategies, adding that remaining threats are largely confined to border communities and forested areas.
Despite maintaining a firm no-negotiation stance with terrorists, Zango noted that the government is open to accepting those who voluntarily renounce violence.
“Any bandit that decides to lay down his arms and embrace peace will be rehabilitated and given support and assistance,” he stated.
He further explained that the Katsina State Government is committed to ensuring full reintegration of repentant terrorists into society through structured rehabilitation programmes, including access to education and socio-economic support.
“We will rehabilitate them, give them a lot of support and proper education to make them full members of society,” he added.
The commissioner reiterated the state’s dedication to lasting peace and called on communities to support government initiatives aimed at ending terrorism and restoring normalcy in affected areas.
