Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command, in collaboration with soldiers, successfully thwarted two separate kidnap attempts in the state, rescuing six victims.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina Police Command, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, on Saturday.
According to the statement, the first incident occurred on the Jibia – Kauran Namoda road, when the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call regarding an attempted kidnapping.
The PPRO explained that law enforcement responded swiftly, engaging the suspected kidnappers in a gunfight.
“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives, in collaboration with the military, immediately responded to the scene and engaged the suspects in a gun duel.
Four kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Unfortunately, one of the victims succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during the attack,” Sadiq-Aliyu said.
In a second incident on the same day, the Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters received another distress call about a kidnapping attempt at Unguwar Boka village in Faskari Local Government Area, along the Funua-Gusau road.
The police, alongside military personnel, responded swiftly and engaged the assailants in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
“Regrettably, the assailants fatally shot one of the victims during the attack.
However, two kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt,” the statement added.
ASP Sadiq-Aliyu assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators, as investigations continue into both incidents.
The Katsina Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating crime in the state and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
