Katsina State has taken a significant step in addressing violence against persons with the establishment of specialized courts following the enactment of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act and the Child Protection Law.
The move is aimed at expediting the resolution of cases related to violence.
The Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, announced the establishment of these specialized courts after Governor Dikko Umaru Radda ceremonially assented to both laws earlier on Friday.

In his remarks, Justice Danladi commended Governor Radda’s leadership and commitment to human rights.
He emphasized the importance of not only enacting strong laws but also ensuring their effective implementation through dedicated enforcement mechanisms.
Referring to the Quran’s provisions for protecting women and children, Justice Danladi expressed concern over the frequent disregard for fundamental rights.
He described the newly established courts as a pivotal step towards upholding human rights and expressed confidence in their ability to address gender-based violence (GBV) and child abuse with sensitivity and speed.
Highlighting recent distressing incidents, including a high-profile assault on a lawyer’s wife, the Chief Judge emphasized the urgency of action.
To facilitate reporting of violence, he announced the launch of a dedicated hotline across the state.
Justice Danladi reiterated the sanctity of all life according to Quranic teachings and stressed the collective responsibility to safeguard it.
He applauded Governor Radda’s proactive approach and the creation of a steering committee to oversee the implementation of the laws.
Calling for active participation from all stakeholders, including religious leaders, community members, and law enforcement agencies, Justice Danladi underscored the importance of enforcing these crucial protections.
