Lawyer and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking a vacation in Paris while Nigerians continue to grapple with deepening hardship, insecurity, and failing public services.
Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, voiced his concerns on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, describing Nigeria as “a country in distress.”
“People are dying in Zamfara, people are dying in Katsina, yet the President says he is going on work leave,” Okonkwo said.

“There is no part of Nigeria today where you can confidently promote tourism or create an enabling environment for work.”
He cited the near collapse of vital sectors, warning that instability in education, healthcare, and energy threatens national stability.
“Look at what is happening with NEPA, look at our educational system where ASUU is threatening another strike, clear evidence of instability in education.
Doctors and nurses are also threatening to strike, exposing the instability in healthcare,” he noted.
Okonkwo further revealed that oil industry contractors have not been paid since 2024, worsening the economic crisis.
Highlighting the human cost of the situation, he said: “Today, Nigeria has more malnourished children than Sudan.
Just recently, a woman lost her child to malaria because she could not afford transport to the hospital. This is the level of suffering Nigerians are enduring.”
The lawyer accused President Tinubu of ignoring the plight of citizens while living in luxury abroad.
“Any nation where education, healthcare, and infrastructure are collapsing is a country in distress.
Yet, in the face of this crisis, the President is vacationing in Paris, wearing the finest suits, and laughing while Nigerians wallow in poverty and pain,” he said.
Okonkwo concluded by declaring that Nigerians must be rescued from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
