The kidnappers of retired Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga, a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), have demanded a ransom of N250 million for his release.
Tsiga was abducted late Wednesday night when heavily armed men stormed his residence in Katsina State.
The assailants reportedly surrounded the premises, forcefully broke into his home, and seized control of the situation. The retired general had stepped outside to confront the intruders before being taken hostage.
Confirming the incident, Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, a federal lawmaker representing Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency, described the abduction as a troubling development.
He called for intensified efforts by security agencies to ensure Tsiga’s safe return.
Security operatives have since launched a manhunt for the kidnappers, but authorities have yet to provide an update on the progress of the investigation.
A family source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Daily Trust that the kidnappers contacted the family on Friday, demanding the hefty ransom.
“We are still in shock. The demand is overwhelming, and the family is pleading for his safe return,” the source said.
General Tsiga, a respected figure in Katsina and beyond, played a crucial role in youth development and national service programs during his tenure as NYSC Director-General.
His abduction adds to the growing wave of kidnappings in Katsina and the North-West, heightening concerns over security in the region.
