The Kogi State Government has expressed worry over the issue of youths unemployment on the country, describing the trend as endemic and requires that government at all levels must begin to fashion out new ways to resolve the problem.
The state Deputy Governor, Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, stated this while speaking at the recruitment exercise held by the Nigerian Army, Charimegumeri Barracks, in Lokoja.
Mr. Awoniyi lamented the growing rate of youth unemployment in the country despite efforts by successive administrations to provide gainful employment.
The Kogi State deputy governor also disclosed that the present administration under Captain Idris Wada (rtd) has placed priority in engaging youths of the state, but said despite the over 7,000 youths the present administration has engaged under its Youths Advancement for Development Programme among other forms of employment it has offered its teeming youths since the inception of the administration, the number of those unemployed in the state, he added, still gives cause for concern.
He, therefore, called on government at all levels to begin to study the issue of youth unemployment with a view to finding lasting solutions that will gainfully engage youths across the country.
