The National Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Ogini Olaposi, has declared that the political influence of the party’s former presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is overrated in Kano State.
Olaposi said Kwankwaso’s influence as a former governor of Kano State has waned significantly and would not affect President Bola Tinubu’s votes in the state during the 2027 general election.
In a statement he signed on Sunday, the NNPP scribe said the party’s presidential ticket for 2027 is open to all qualified members, unlike in 2023 when Kwankwaso emerged as the party’s sole candidate.

He attributed the development to what he described as anti-party activities by some members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement after the 2023 presidential election.
“Anti-party activities by some members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement after the presidential election led to the expulsion of top members, including Kwankwaso, Elder Buba Galadima and others, which has not been reversed,” Olaposi said.
According to him, the NNPP has already attracted several intending presidential aspirants, including two from the party’s diaspora, adding that the party remains open to more aspirants and strategic alliances ahead of 2027.
“The NNPP ticket for 2027 is open to all members. Already, we have intending presidential aspirants, including two from the NNPP diaspora, and we are open to more, including alliances,” he stated.
Olaposi also said the party is open to collaborations with other political parties that share similar ideologies ahead of the 2027 elections.
He dismissed claims that Kwankwaso’s support base in Kano State could influence the outcome of the next presidential election, noting that many key members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“Kwankwaso does not have the nationwide selling capacity of President Bola Tinubu, with his alleged one million votes in Kano State,” he said.
Olaposi added that President Tinubu and the APC’s prospects for 2027 would be driven by performance in office rather than personal influence.
“Kwankwaso’s influence as a former governor of Kano State is long gone and cannot affect Tinubu’s votes in Kano State in 2027,” he concluded.
