On Tuesday, legislators from Kwara State called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to use all available legal tools to crack down on the illegal hawking and open sales of drugs, medicines, and related products in the state’s markets.
The legislature also requested that the state’s department of communication launch extensive awareness campaigns about the risks of exposing pharmaceuticals and medical supplies to sunlight and the resulting damage to human health.
The legislature also requested that the governor revitalise the state’s medicine rotation scheme so that residents could have access to safe, effective medication in all state-run hospitals.
These were included in a resolution passed by the House in response to a notice motion brought forth by Hon. Bello Yunusa Oniboki (Afon Constituency) on the necessity of halting the improper handling and indiscriminate exhibition of medications, medicines, and other related products in the state.
Bello, expressed worry that medicines have become less potent, or may go bad before the expiration date, due to the fact that the capsules, syrups, ointments, and others, all have their respective potent temperatures and therefore become less potent if unnecessarily exposed to the sun, as is often done in the market within and all over the state.
The congressman also voiced concern that poisoning, sickness, treatment failure, and premature death could result from indigestion or the introduction of fraudulent and poor drugs into the human body.
Engr Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, the Speaker of the House, has announced the dates and times for the vetting of the commissioner nominees that the governor submitted before the legislature went on recess.
The screening process, which begins on August 16, 2023, and ends on August 21, 2023, according to Infostride News.
