The Kwara State Police Command has paraded six suspects, including five men and one woman, for alleged involvement in various offenses, including culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy, public disturbance, and mischief.
Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya, addressing journalists during the parade on Thursday, stated that three suspects—Peter Samuel, Jeremiah Tiozinda, and Sunday Agbenke—were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly murdering and decapitating 34-year-old Rafiu Alao on November 4, 2024.
The commissioner detailed that the murder took place in the Asunlere community of Oke Oyi, Ilorin, Kwara’s capital.
On Monday evening, local residents reported the discovery of a headless body near a stream to the Oke-Oyi Police Division.
“Upon receiving this report, detectives were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they documented significant violence around the neck, suggesting decapitation.
The body was moved to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy,” Olaiya said.
Evidence recovered at the crime scene included an Itel Android phone believed to belong to one of the suspects and a motorcycle thought to be the deceased’s. Police also discovered the deceased’s phone on his person.
Following intensive investigations, the three suspects were apprehended on November 6 at different locations.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and subsequent court arraignment.
In a related incident, the police commissioner also paraded two additional suspects, Yusuf Abdulkareem, 22, and Jaiyeola Fatai, 40, who, along with others still at large, allegedly stoned an innocent farmer they mistakenly accused of Alao’s murder.
The suspects also vandalized the farmer’s car, which was parked at the police station.
