Dr Afeez Abolore Alabi, the Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development in Kwara State, has called for enhanced collaboration between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to combat illegal mining activities in the state.
Alabi made the plea during visits to the EFCC and DSS headquarters in Ilorin, the state capital, on Wednesday.
He highlighted the necessity of these visits in light of the ongoing illegal mining operations in the state and their adverse effects on revenue generation.

The commissioner stressed the need for concerted efforts to address the issue and prevent further financial losses to the state.
In response, Harry Erin, the Zonal Director of the EFCC in the state, commended the commissioner for his proactive approach and assured him of the EFCC’s commitment to collaborating with the ministry to combat illegal mining activities.
Erin emphasized the importance of stakeholder involvement and support in reducing revenue losses to the government.
Similarly, the State Director of the DSS highlighted Kwara State’s abundant mineral resources and their significant revenue potential for the state government.
He called on the state government to implement strategies and initiatives that would engage youths in productive activities, thus contributing to societal development.
