The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu has revealed that the 118,912 beneficiaries of the Community Services Women and Youths Employment Project (CSWYE) of SURE-P in the 36 States of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory have recorded a total of one hundred and sixty million, five hundred and forty eight thousand, four hundred man hours output.
Emeka Wogu made the revelation in Abuja during a formal meeting with members of the Senate AD-HOC Committee on Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) recently.
According to the Minister, “The volume of work done by the beneficiaries of CSWYE so far in all the States of the Federation has been translated to a total of 160, 548,400 man-hours with environmental sanitation accounting for the highest value of 110,776,900 man hours and traffic control the lowest with a total of 3,817,300 man hours output.
He averred that a total of 118,912 persons who comprise 75,823 males and 43,089 females with 5,122 physically challenged persons spread across a total of 8,864 service points in 11,139 communities of 8,993 wards across the 774 Local Government Areas of the Federation are currently benefiting from the project.
The Minister emphasized that the CSWYE Project of SURE-P is a promise kept to Nigerians, with its unique features ensuring transparency and accountability. Adding, it is the first of its kind to have had direct positive impact on the lives of poor women, youths and other vulnerable members of the society.
In his remarks at the occasion, the Chairman of the Senate AD-HOC Committee on Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, Abdul Ningi commended the Minister for his transparent and brilliant presentation; saying it is worthy of emulation. “As long as Ministers like you come before us to make excellent presentations and we interface, this programme will live on,” he assured.
Abdul Ningi affirmed that the CSWYE is a project that should be supported and sustained because of its direct bearing on the poor and vulnerable citizens of the country.
“For us as a Senate and a Committee, we view this particular programme as very cardinal and very important to the well being of the citizens of this country. We believe if properly implemented, the Community Services Women and Youths Employment Project of SURE-P will be a catalyst for development,” he said.
