The Labour Party (LP) has accused the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) of unlawfully breaking and entering its national headquarters in Abuja, describing the incident as a criminal act.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifo, the LP alleged that the NLC’s “militant arm” broke into its headquarters and caused extensive damage to property.
The LP condemned the action, calling it a misplacement of priorities and an act done in bad faith.

The party specifically criticized NLC President Joe Ajaero, accusing him of greed and inordinate ambition, which they claim has led him to lose discretion and decency in his recent conduct.
Ifoh questioned Ajaero’s leadership, particularly his involvement with individuals who have partisan interests in other major political parties, such as the PDP and APC, against a recognized independent political party like the LP.
The statement emphasized that the NLC does not own the Labour Party, as claimed by Ajaero, and highlighted that a political party is owned by its card-carrying or financial members.
The LP alleged that more than 90 percent of NLC members do not meet this condition and therefore cannot claim ownership of the party.
The LP also criticized the NLC’s failure to address critical national issues such as poor workers’ wages, high inflation, and insecurity, accusing Ajaero of focusing on personal agendas instead.
The LP stated that it is reviewing the incident with its legal department for further actions, particularly regarding what they perceive as a personal vendetta against their national chairman, Julius Abure, which they claim included slanderous accusations.
The LP concluded by stating its intention to take legal action against the NLC, emphasizing that the NLC’s actions are detrimental to the working community and are not in line with its primary responsibility of defending Nigerian workers.
