The Julius Abure-led Labour Party (LP) has asserted that it would have performed better in managing the affairs of Nigeria than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has over the past two years.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, made the statement on Wednesday during a media briefing in Abuja.
According to Ifoh, the Labour Party had predicted the current economic hardship, widespread poverty, and deteriorating living conditions now being experienced by Nigerians under the APC administration.

He challenged citizens to honestly assess their current quality of life compared to two years ago, asking:
“How much is a bag of rice today when compared with what it was two years ago? Are we now more secure on our roads and at home? What about the purchasing power of our citizens? Is it better?”
He noted that the LP is confident a government under its leadership would have done a better job in economic management and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
“We make bold to say a Labour Party government would have done a better job of managing the economy and improving the lives of Nigerians,” he declared.
Highlighting key economic indicators, Ifoh said the naira’s value has plummeted, with the currency now exchanging at over ₦1,600 per US dollar, compared to ₦167 at a point under previous administrations. He also pointed out that petrol, which used to sell for ₦87 per litre, now goes for over ₦1,000 per litre, while inflation has surged from nearly 40% to over 42%.
The Labour Party’s statement adds to the growing criticism of the APC-led federal government amid widespread public dissatisfaction over the country’s worsening economic conditions.
