Ogba City Mall in Ikeja and Ajah market in Etti-Osa were both closed by the administration of Lagos State due to various violations involving rubbish disposal.
An enforcement team consisting of members from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offenses (LASTMA), and the Lagos Government Special Environmental Corps (KAI) carried out the action.
This information was provided in a statement that was released on Sunday in Lagos by Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, who is the Director of Public Affairs for LAWMA.

According to Kadiri, the enforcement team also took up the shanties and structures used by illegal traders that were located surrounding the Ajah BRT line and the Ajah Jubilee Bridge.
In response to this incident, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, stated that the enforcement was a continuation of the administration’s assault on filth and the indiscriminate disposal of rubbish by business facilities and marketplaces located throughout the state.
“We are increasing our efforts to enforce this administration’s zero tolerance policy against the careless and unsanitary dumping of waste by commercial and industrial enterprises.
According to Wahab, “We have continually warned business owners to expect action if they refuse to do what is necessary to do their part in maintaining the environment.”
Wahab asserted that the administration being led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will not back down from the pursuit of the laudable goal in the sake of the greater public benefit.
On the other hand, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, stated that the zero tolerance campaign was an ongoing one. He advised markets and business players to take steps to ensure that the premises were clean and hygienic.
“For the umpteenth time, we are encouraging all business owners and markets to shun filth and put measures in place to guarantee responsible waste disposal in their places of operation,” he added. “We are encouraging all business owners and markets to shun filth and put measures in place to shun filth.”
