The Police Command in Lagos State has reported the arrest of at least 1,802 suspects in raids conducted at various black spots across the state within the last two weeks.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Lagos.
Hundeyin stated that between April 8 and April 14, the command arrested 1,019 suspects in raids within Oshodi, Mushin, Agege, Lagos Island, Ojota, and Orile-Iganmu areas.
Additionally, between April 15 and April 20, another 783 suspects were arrested in raids in these areas and others.
The raids were carried out by area commands, divisions, and tactical teams, including the Rapid Response Squad, as ordered by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade.
According to Hundeyin, these efforts have significantly reduced crime and criminality in the state, particularly attacks on the public at night and early morning.
He emphasized that the raids were not intended to extort the public, and proper screening is conducted afterward to ensure innocent persons are not mistaken for criminals.
Hundeyin advised the public to always carry means of identification, avoid loitering around suspected criminals and black spots, and continue to report suspicious activities to the police.
