Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has announced that the long-awaited Lagos Red Line rail project will be unveiled in February.
The governor revealed this during the Lagos West Senatorial District Town Hall Meeting held at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton, Ikeja.
Sanwo-Olu stated that he has officially written to President Bola Tinubu to request his presence at the unveiling ceremony.

He emphasized the significance of the Red Line rail in enhancing transportation within Lagos State and expressed his anticipation for its formal inauguration.
The governor’s announcement comes after the unveiling of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line Ikeja Overpass in December 2023.
During the overpass unveiling, Sanwo-Olu had expressed optimism that the Red Line rail, which is reported to be 95 per cent completed, would be ready for inauguration by Tinubu before the end of the first quarter of 2024.
Once operational, the Red Line rail is expected to significantly impact transportation in Lagos, with the capacity to convey approximately 500,000 passengers daily.
The project represents a major milestone in the state’s efforts to improve its transportation infrastructure and provide more efficient means of commuting for its residents.
The forthcoming unveiling of the Lagos Red Line rail is anticipated to mark a significant achievement in the state’s infrastructure development and is expected to further enhance the transportation network in Lagos State.
