The 5 kilometer walk with over 500 participants which kicked off from the New Era Youth Camp and terminated at the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area had people from the LGA/LCDA that made up Epe Division i.e. Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Lekki Local Council Development Area, Epe Local Government, Eredo LCDA and Ikosi-Ejirin LCDA.
The Honourable Commissioner for Rural Development, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi said the walk is to sensitize and educate the people at the grass-root on the importance of regular exercise for them to keep fit.
Ojelabi mandated the Community Development Association (CDAs) and Community Development Councils (CDCs) to see the issue of health as a collective responsibility and continue to sensitize their people for the walk for fitness exercise.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Mrs. Yewande Adesina represented by Dr. Mazeedat Erinosho of the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board who gave the health talk said the importance of exercising cannot be over emphasized, she therefore urged the participants to see it as a very important issue and take time out regularly no matter their tight schedule and exercise.
She also urged them to imbibe and inculcate the habit of regular exercise in their children to reduce the incidence of obesity in children which is on the increase now due to lack of exercise.
Erinosho noted that exercise must also be complemented with healthy eating habit to be very fit and therefore charged the participants to take fruits and water regularly to flush out their systems every day.
The quarterly exercise for the five divisions of the State kicked off in Badagry and will continue in Ikorodu Division in August.
