The Lagos State Government has impounded 241 vehicles during a recent enforcement exercise conducted by the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS).
The operation aimed to clamp down on unlicensed vehicles and violations of the state’s transportation regulations.
The enforcement action was announced via a post on the official X handle of the Lagos State Government on Tuesday, October 1.
The post stated: “In accordance with Sections 15 and 16 of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL) 2018, the Lagos State Government has impounded 241 vehicles during a recent enforcement exercise conducted by the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS).
The vehicles were found to be unlicensed and in violation of the state’s transportation regulations.”
Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, warned motorists against driving unregistered vehicles, stressing that such actions hinder law enforcement efforts, particularly in the identification and tracking of stolen vehicles or those involved in criminal activities.
Osiyemi emphasised that operating a vehicle without proper registration or identification marks is a legal offence.
He also revealed that a fake dealer number plate was discovered on one of the impounded vehicles. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for issuing the fraudulent plate.
The enforcement exercise underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring compliance with transportation regulations and enhancing road safety across Lagos State.
