The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Human Services in Taraba State, Zirra Mathias Bubanani, has officially confirmed an outbreak of Lassa Fever in the state.
This confirmation comes after an NYSC member from the Damare orientation camp tested positive for the virus.
The confirmation follows an investigation conducted on a sample taken from the Corps member at the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) in Abuja.

The Corps member had presented symptoms similar to those of Lassa Fever, prompting health workers at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola, to conduct the test.
In response to the outbreak, the state government has advised the public to take necessary precautions to prevent further spread of the disease.
Residents are urged to maintain good hygiene and sanitation practices, avoid unnecessary contact, and ensure proper storage of leftover foods and food items to prevent rat infestation.
The state government has also assured the public of its commitment to containing the outbreak and protecting the health and safety of all residents.
