Latest Injury Is Not Serious – Robben

Robben - Copy (2)Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has said he does not believe his latest injury is “anything serious” after being substituted at half-time in his first game for Netherlands in over a year.

The Netherlands captain, 32, scored the opener in a 3-1 World Cup qualifying win in Luxembourg but was taken off at the break after suffering thigh muscle pain.

“Hopefully it’s not bad. Maybe it happened after an awkward movement,” Robben told RTL Nitro. “I don’t think it’s anything serious or a lengthy injury.”

Robben stayed in Munich last week for extra training and missed Netherlands’ friendly against Belgium in midweek with the blessing of coach Danny Blind.

The cap was his 89th and his first since a friendly win over Wales on Nov. 13 2015, but he said he had been unimpressed with the pitch.

“I was stood in mud in several places,” he said. “That shouldn’t be happening at this level.”

Meanwhile, striker Robert Lewandowski has returned early from international duty with Poland.

Lewandowski scored twice in Poland’s World Cup qualifying win in Romania on Friday, where a firecracker exploded in his immediate vicinity during the second half.

The Poland captain was not hurt but said: “At first my ears were ringing. I needed a few minutes to come round. Fortunately, nothing happened.”

Coach Adam Nawalka has granted Lewandowski a break from international action and he will now prepare for Bayern’s return to Bundesliga action against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said the club are “very worried” about Arturo Vidal after he vowed to play for Chile next week “no matter what” despite picking up an injury.
