Leadership newspaper has reportedly refunded N9million it collected from the embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.
SaharaReporters obtained a copy of the cheque written in the name of the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN).
The body had allegedly received huge funds from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), which it disbursed to owners of newspaper and broadcast firms, including AIT, Leadership and ThisDay newspapers.
It would be recalled that the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on January 26, arrested media mogul and founder of ThisDay, Nduka Obaigbena, for allegedly receiving N670 million from the NPAN provide positive coverage of former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 presidential elections.
Obaigbena, who denied the money came from Dasuki’s office, said the money was a compensation from Jonathan for the loss his company recorded after it was attacked by the Boko Haram sect.
Dokpesi, who admitted he received N2.1bn from Dasuki, was also arrested by the EFCC and later released on bail. He said the money was meant for publicity and media political campaigns during the last 2015 general elections.
